About #GiveHerACrown

#GiveHerACrown is a female empowerment platform that exists to change the narrative for women in South Africa. We do this through the power of storytelling and the arts. The platform officially launched in August 2020, by telling the stories of all women; the survivors, the activists, the pioneers, the next generation.

In 2020 we had 16 local artists each creating a bespoke crown of art in their choice of material. Proceeds of the sales during 16 days of activism enabled us to develop and then launch #GiveThemACrown, a CAPS aligned, Digital School kit for educators to champion gender equality in schools.

In 2021, the #CrownCollection consisted of six one-of-a-kind digital artworks created by South Africa’s most talented digital artists. The prints and products thereof were sold online with the proceeds going towards The CrownBursary Fund for young female creatives!

In 2023, the campaign highlights how women use their inherent strength to not only empower themselves, but also uplift others.

Six incredible female artists, each created a bespoke art piece that celebrates the exquisite details of women. Through the power of storytelling and the arts we encourage women across South Africa to not only see their exquisite details, but to also celebrate it.

2020 Crown Fund

#GiveHerACrown believes that the fight against Gender Based Violence starts in schools. Gender discrimination which, simply put, is any unequal treatment, including privilege and priority, on the basis gender has been shown to start in childhood.

Our Crownfunding campaign aims to impact schools across South Africa by providing a transformative educational programme that will train and empower teachers to champion gender equality with their students. The educational content will be co-created with Lalela, an organisation that specializes in Art Education, which will use the power of creativity and storytelling in order to drive empathy and behavioural change.

Empowering girls from the start is proven to have lasting and compounding benefits over the course of their lives. Your contribution will have a lifelong impact and change the trajectory of women in South Africa.
