About #GiveHerACrown

#GiveHerACrown is a female empowerment platform that exists to change the narrative for women in South Africa. We do this through the power of storytelling and the arts.

We launched in August 2020, by telling the stories of all women; the survivors, the activists, the pioneers, the next generation.

Our ambassador Zolani Mahola will also be releasing an exclusive song for the campaign and we have 16 local artists each creating a bespoke crown of art in their choice of material. These 16 crowns will be auctioned off during 16 days of activism, with all proceeds benefiting the fight against gender-based violence.

The public is invited to #GiveHerACrown, a virtual crown, to a woman in their lives and tell their stories. It’s a celebration of women’s value in society and a promise to hold space for them…even in their absence.

About #GiveHerACrown

#GiveHerACrown is a female empowerment platform that exists to change the narrative for women in South Africa. We do this through the power of storytelling and the arts. The platform officially launched in August 2020, by telling the stories of all women; the survivors, the activists, the pioneers, the next generation.

In 2020 we had 16 local artists each creating a bespoke crown of art in their choice of material. Proceeds of the sales during 16 days of activism enabled us to develop and launch #GiveThemACrown, a CAPS aligned, Digital School kit for educators to champion gender equality in schools.

This year, the 2021 #CrownCollection will consist of six one-of-a-kind digital artworks by South Africa’s most talented digital artists. The prints and products thereof will be sold online with the proceeds going towards Jaguar Crown bursaries for young female creatives!

Zolani Mahola released an exclusive song for the campaign to remind us who are: Listen to the song here:

About the Team

We are The Change Collective Africa, a social enterprise that connects a network of Purpose Pioneers across Africa to create real societal change where it is needed most.

We believe that one good idea can change the world and are experts in crafting societal change solutions.

Along with our network of changemakers from corporates to communities, influencers and even individuals, we bring these solutions to life and craft meaningful stories that showcase the impact.

We also believe that doing good is good business and lead the way in creating a new shared wealth, where equal value is placed on purpose and profit.

Our main areas of passion include gender-based violence, entrepreneurship and job creation, conscious consumerism and tech philanthropy.

When likeminded people join hands for the same purpose, miracles happen.

The Crown Fund

#GiveHerACrown believes that the fight against Gender Based Violence starts in schools. Gender discrimination which, simply put, is any unequal treatment, including privilege and priority, on the basis gender has been shown to start in childhood.

Our Crownfunding campaign aims to impact schools across South Africa by providing a transformative educational programme that will train and empower teachers to champion gender equality with their students. The educational content will be co-created with Lalela, an organisation that specializes in Art Education, which will use the power of creativity and storytelling in order to drive empathy and behavioural change.

Empowering girls from the start is proven to have lasting and compounding benefits over the course of their lives. Your contribution will have a lifelong impact and change the trajectory of women in South Africa.
